I’m Umberto Gotti, author of the faction Rust crate.
Proposal:
I’m requesting funding for Phases 1–4 of faction — a formally verified, protocol-agnostic Mealy state machine for distributed cluster bootstrapping and node lifecycle management (dynamic joining, failure detection, and safe single-node add/remove).
Why this matters to Rocket Pool
Rocket Pool operators and node runners rely on safe, reliable validator coordination across different clients. Faction provides a shared, high-assurance primitive that can reduce custom logic, improve failure handling, and support future embedded/constrained hardware validators — all while maintaining strong correctness guarantees through exhaustive testing.
Current status
- Phase 0 (static bootstrapping) is complete, published on crates.io (MIT), 100% test coverage, zero unsafe, and no_std + alloc.
