Hello to the Rocket Pool community. We’re posting here to guide you to passively opt-in to preconfirmations with mev-commit and show how node operators can generate additional yield.
Primev’s mev-commit is a peer-to-peer networking platform designed to facilitate real-time coordination between mev actors: Bidders and execution providers.
It’s easy for validators to participate in this network and earn additional yield passively. One of the questions we have for the Rocket Pool community: What’s your preferred method of opting-in; through staking an additional 3 ETH, restaking via Eigenlayer, or by staking rETH?
Join the upcoming community call on Wednesday, December 11 at 3PM PST to share your thoughts and ask us questions about mev-commit and how we support validators and the Rocket Pool community. Mev-commit is available for mainnet opt in today, with network activity coming online over the coming weeks.
What mev-commit Offers
Validators that opt into mev-commit earn additional yield sourced by mev-commit through preconfirmations:
- Additional yield on top of your current APR. Passive opt-in through existing mev-boost setup - no other software required to run
- Permissionless network participation
- Prior research demonstrates yield gains for validators - see this research post
- Yield will increase as new commitment use cases are enabled
What mev-commit Does
Our mission at Primev is to solve coordination inefficiencies in decentralized domains additively to mev, boosting network welfare while increasing transparency and decentralization of the mev pipeline. Our flagship product, mev-commit, is an end-to-end encrypted p2p network for preconfirmations and other credible commitments.
mev-commit, available on mainnet Ethereum, is enabling fast transaction experiences on Ethereum through preconfirmations while unlocking new yield opportunities for validators through partnerships with Eigenlayer and Symbiotic restaking infrastructure.
Mev-commit network provides preconfirmation and other execution-related bid value to Ethereum blocks. Providers on the network issue cryptoeconomic commitments in real-time and deliver the execution outcome requested in bids to claim rewards. Bids on the network are used to bid higher on the mev-boost auction, increasing block value for opted-in validators. Professional block builders handle the technical complexity of execution.
The network has shown promising early traction:
- Over 31,000 preconfirmations processed in the weeks after launch
- 28 Eigenlayer operators onboarded in this timeframe
mev-commit does NOT require validators to run any additional software, such as sidecars, but instead integrates upstream to mev-boost via block builders and relays to enhance the mev-boost pipeline.
How to Participate
As a Rocket Pool node operator, you currently have two main options to start earning additional yield through mev-commit:
Option 1. Native Restaking through Eigenlayer
- Delegate your EigenPod to a supporting operator from here
- Visit the mev-commit validator dashboard
- Connect the wallet that controls your validator keys
- Select “Eigenlayer Restaking” option
- Register your validator pubkeys
Benefits of this option:
- No additional capital needed beyond your existing stake
- Keep running your node as usual
- Most capital efficient option through Eigenlayer restaking
Option 2. Vanilla Staking
- Visit the mev-commit validator dashboard
- Connect your wallet
- Choose “Simple Staking” option
- Stake minimum 1 ETH per validator pubkey you wish to register
- Register your validator pubkeys
In the future, when slashing is enabled on mev-commit, you will need to update your mev-boost relay configuration to use mev-commit opted-in relays.
Benefits:
- Simple, straightforward setup
- No delegation required
- Fully permissionless
Soliciting Feedback: Direct rETH Staking Integration
We’re inviting feedback from the Rocket Pool community to gauge whether you would be interested in mev-commit working to add direct rETH staking support into our validator dashboard for an even simpler onboarding process. Please let us know if this is something you would be interested in, compared with the opt-in methods above.
A key point for operators is that option #1 requires no changes to your current setup beyond using supported relays - you’re essentially getting additional yield on your existing stake through preconfirmation bids.
Current Status
- Validator opt-in is live on mainnet
- Network has been thoroughly tested on Holesky with over 41,000 validators opted in
- Mev-commit network activity will commence on mainnet over the coming weeks
- All major relays are expected to progressively roll out support
We’ll be joining the upcoming Rocket Pool Community Call to discuss these opportunities in detail and answer any questions. In the meantime, you can review our documentation and research. Your experience as node operators in one of crypto’s most decentralized networks makes your input especially valuable.
