RPIP-75 Sentiment Poll: change express ticket allocation

This post seeks to discover community sentiment on RPIP-75: Change Express Ticket Allocation for Saturn 1.

Quick summary

Change express ticket allocation for a more balanced megapool migration given the current and expected post Saturn 1 modest rETH growth.

Currently, every node shall receive enough express tickets to migrate all NO ETH (aka. bonded ETH or nETH) plus 2. With this change these additional 2 tickets go away, as we want to ensure new NOs (without any stake) don’t have any priority over existing NOs.

Also, the express queue (i.e. the queue using express tickets) is designed to move faster than a normal queue. With this change the express queue will move twice faster than originally specified.

I don’t think this change is big enough to change behavior, so I’d prefer not to bother voting on it. Not sure how I’d vote if we do move to vote.

I support this because it prevent some mild nefarious Sybil risk, and it’s obvious we aren’t going to have an enough rETH demand for some time if ever to satiate the tickets. I think it misses a chance to meaningfully reduce express tickets enough to encourage migrating a wider diversity of NOs. The formula proposed that was removed from this RPIP is:

Change additional expressTickets from (bondedETH/4) to ((bondedETH + 8)/16)

Which decreases tickets by about 75%, with minimum 1 for small NOs. I think that kind of reduction would be beneficial, and I think this RPIP is somewhat incomplete without it.

However, I would vote yes for this current version!
