Protocol Development - Roadmap Update (May, June, July)

Hey everyone!

Here is a quarterly roadmap update for May, June, and July 2025.

Saturn 1

The team have made good progress on the Saturn 1 deliverables as outlined in the timeline post.

Devnet-2

Devnet-2 was launched on 1st May 2025, it included:

  • ETH reward distribution
  • ETH capital distribution
  • Claiming funds
  • Commission controller and security council adder
  • Over bonded credit
  • oDAO penalisation of stake with guardrail

Devnet-3

The majority of this period was focused on preparing and launching Devnet-3, which went live on 16th July 2025. This release included:

  • RPIP-43 - Megapools
    • Stake / unstake RPL
    • Dissolve proof
  • RPIP-65: Prioritize rETH Withdrawal Buffer
  • RPIP-57: Node Distributor User Fund Unbundling
  • RPIP-30: RPL Staking Rework
  • RPIP-60: Protocol Upgrade Guardrails
  • RPIP-61: Balance Submission Guardrail

Devnet-3 is now undergoing active testing by both the team and community beta testers. If you’d like to get involved, follow the instructions in the announcement. We greatly appreciate your support and feedback!

Please note that the devnet is still a work in progress—thanks for your patience as we continue refining Saturn 1.

Devnet-4

While Devnet-3 covers the majority of the smart contract changes, Devnet-4 is currently in development and will primarily focus on implementing Reward Tree v11, which includes:

  • RPL rewards calculation
  • Voter share distribution logic

Once Reward Tree v11 is complete, we’ll launch a fresh Devnet-4 environment. It will initially include a Houston deployment to allow testers to create minipools. From there, we’ll guide the network through the upgrade and migration process to simulate the full Saturn 1 transition.

Audits

Over this period, the team conducted a thorough review and selection process to determine the audit partners for Saturn 1.

We’re pleased to confirm that the following highly regarded audit firms will be conducting the security reviews:

  • Sigma Prime
  • Spearbit / Cantina
  • BailSec

Each team brings extensive expertise and a strong track record in smart contract and protocol security.

Sigma Prime has already begun their audit, with Spearbit / Cantina scheduled to commence on 28 July, and BailSec a week later.

Timeline

As previously announced we are targeting the 29th October 2025 for Saturn 1 mainnet launch.

Websites & APIs

Partnership

  • UI work for an upcoming integration (cannot release details yet), including geographically based feature targeting

UI & UX

  • EIP7702 research & implementation - Due to Hoodi not being ready for EIP7702 & isolated wallet support, we’ve decided to hold this back until better adoption
  • New UX & UI flow for transactions that require approvals (hasn’t hit production)
  • New institution focused area on the website

Performance

  • Rust based proxy server for lower latency RPC requests & request injection
  • Added EU & US servers to speed up websites for users of those regions, depending on your region you should experience a lot less latency

Devnet Support

  • Devnet 2/3/4 UX & contract updates to the websites

Numerous maintenance/dependency/performance/bugfixes/tweaks to websites & servers
