This thread is for applications for Rocket Pool’s December 7, 2024 - January 7, 2025 retrospective awards. Please only post retrospective award applications in this thread. If you would like to discuss and/or ask questions about any applications you see in this thread, we ask that you do so in this separate forum thread which has been established for all community discussions related to this round of applications. Only those grant applications that are posted in this thread and timestamped by January 7, 2025 at 23:59 (11:59 PM) UTC will be considered. Any retrospective award applications posted after that deadline will be carried over to the next award period.
This is the expected schedule for round 20:
Application Period (December 7 - January 7)
Scoring Deadline (January 21)
Final Voting Amendments, Discussion and Finalization (January 22 - January 25)
Award Announcement (January 26)
To guide you in your application, the GMC has established the following goals and the following scoring rubric:
GMC Goals
Grants, bounties, and retrospective awards should make it easier and/or more attractive to do one or more of the following:
become a node operator
operate a node, mint rETH
hold or use rETH
improve the quality of life for the protocol and its community.
Retrospective Award Rubric
To what extent did the proposed and completed project further the GMC goals?
Note: if the project is ongoing, the retrospective award is given for work completed prior to the current award period, with any future awards for the same project expected to compete in the Grants category and as a separate application.

In the wee hours of December the 22nd of the year of our lord 2024, a safe wallet controlled by nsso.eth deposited over 18,000 eth: tx link
Acting quickly, cal sent me 0.42328071653 eth from god knows where, to supplement my own dust, and we seized upon sub-10 gwei gas to clear the minipool queue by using peteris’s contract
The following transactions matched almost 500 minipools: tx1 tx2 tx3 tx4 tx5 tx6
This created more space for future deposits, and saved money vs allowing these matches to happen at higher gas prices. All were under 8 gwei.
Cal is out 0.42328071653 eth.
Cal, however, is furious with regret. Kidding, I’m sure he’s his usual self

Conflict of Interest
This answer keeps getting longer…
I am a investor in nodeset, beaconcha.in, and sit on the board of directors of ethstaker but have no idea what that entails, yet.
Does the person or persons requesting the retrospective award have any conflicts of interest to disclose? (Please disclose here if you are a member of the GMC or if you have nominated a member of the GMC for this retrospective award).
None to disclose, aside from Cal’s status as a GMC alumnus.
Who is the proposed retrospective award recipient?
The 25 management committee members who have personally funded gas expenses for executing transactions on behalf of the GMC / IMC in 2024.
What specific project or work is the retrospective award in recognition of? Please detail what the project or work entailed and the duration over which it took place.
This is a continuation of the retro that was awarded last year for gas reimbursement RA082401).
GMC has at least two transactions per month, one for treasury diversity, and one for payments. Meanwhile, the IMC has to regularly execute transactions to manage liquidity incentives. Members are required to use their personal funds to execute transactions.
Payment
How much USD $ is the applicant requesting be awarded to the recipient?
The total payout will be 1.015546362 ETH. At the time of writing this is $ 3,518.31.
I propose to reimburse each member on a dollar-for-dollar basis, calculating their ETH spent to RPL at the time of payout. The ETH price will be taken similar to how RPL price is captured (12th of the month at 23:59 UTC on CoinGecko).
This spreadsheet compiles all members and the total of their executed transactions:
I propose bundling these reimbursements with the member’s monthly stipends to reduce gas costs.
Conflict of Interest
Does the person or persons requesting the retrospective award have any conflicts of interest to disclose? (Please disclose here if you are a member of the GMC or if you have nominated a member of the GMC for this retrospective award).
I am on the GMC and would be receiving reimbursement for the amount I have spent on gas. There will be several other members of the GMC being reimbursed as well.
Retroactive Grant for Additional Rocket Pool Community Calls (H2 2024)
Name of Retrospective Award
Retroactive Grant for Additional Rocket Pool Community Calls (H2 2024)
Who is the proposed retrospective award recipient?
Ken Smith
What specific project or work is the retrospective award in recognition of? Please detail what the project or work entailed and the duration over which it took place.
This award recognizes Ken Smith’s additional work in hosting four additional Rocket Pool Community Calls beyond the original grant’s commitment of 12 calls during the H2 2024 grant period. These additional calls were conducted primarily due to Jasper’s absence from co-hosting and ensured the continuity of regular communication between the Rocket Pool team, node operators (NOs), rETH holders, and the broader Ethereum community. The additional calls covered significant protocol updates, featured business and marketing partners, and addressed community-relevant topics.
Are the subjects of this award entirely open source (MIT, GPL, Apache, CC BY license or similar)? If not, which parts will not be, why, and under what license will they be published?
Yes, the subjects of this award are entirely open source. Recordings of the Community Calls are uploaded to the Rocket Pool YouTube channel under a publicly accessible license.
Benefit
Group
Benefits
Potential rETH holders
The additional calls highlighted the benefits and utility of staking ETH with Rocket Pool and the flexibility and security provided by rETH.
rETH holders
They provided updates on protocol developments, keeping rETH holders informed and confident in their staking choice.
Potential NOs
By featuring practical guidance and discussions with experts, the calls encouraged new participants to explore Rocket Pool’s node operation opportunities.
NOs
Existing NOs gained insights into ecosystem developments and practical tips for optimizing node operations, helping them better understand and leverage the protocol.
Community
The calls fostered community engagement and strengthened communication between the pDAO, the dev team, and the broader Ethereum ecosystem.
RPL holders
Increased visibility and community engagement indirectly support the long-term value and utility of RPL, creating a stronger foundation for Rocket Pool’s future.
Costs
How much USD $ is the applicant requesting be awarded to the recipient?
The applicant requests the equivalent of $1200 USD for the additional four calls, based on the standard remuneration for media production in the H2 2024 period ($300 per event.)
Is the applicant requesting RPL or LUSD?
The applicant is requesting RPL.
Conflict of Interest
Does the person or persons requesting the retrospective award have any conflicts of interest to disclose? (Please disclose here if you are a member of the GMC or if you have nominated a member of the GMC for this retrospective award.)
Yes, Ken Smith is a member of the GMC and will recuse himself from deliberations regarding this application.
Notice: This message marks the closing of the twentieth (20) round of Rocket Pool retrospective award applications. Any applications submitted after this will not be considered for this round. The GMC will announce the award recipients in a new thread here on the forums around January 26th. The community will then have two weeks to issue any challenges before funds are disbursed. Thank you to all who applied and thank you to everyone who has followed along. Anyone who would like to comment on existing applications is encouraged to do so in this thread.
